Connecticut – land of no penalty

Here’s a Connecticut resident who held his ex-wife hostage, fought off the cops, burned down her house and, in general, made a general nuisance of himself yesterday. Pretty humdrum, I know, but I was struck by the disclosure that the guy did the same thing to the poor woman in 2007 – burned down her summer home when ordered to hand it over to her. I’m naive, but I thought people went to jail for this sort of thing so that they weren’t able to do it again.

    This story reminds me of the Manhattan doctor who chose to blow up his eastside townhouse on 62nd street about three years ago rather than give it to his ex-wife in the divorce settlement. He died a few days later from injuries incurred from the explosion. Now this divorcing, Connecticut man destroys his house rather than give it to his former wife.

    Men are rather emotional creatures, aren’t they?

    Arson is a reliable way to get $$ for your property in a sluggish market, provided you don’t go to jail for it. Turning it into a tragic case of love gone wrong might be just the ticket to escape charges of insurance fraud.

    at least in greenwich, the major crime that the police are concerned about remains dogs off leash at the beach. and what a job they did.

    I hope the liberals don’t see this as “Incarceration does not work, so we should stop sending criminals to jail and close all the prisons”.
