Redemption in Old Greenwich
/39 Edgewater Drive sat boarded up and abandoned for many years, resisting all attempts to purchase it - I know, because I tried on several occasions on behalf of interested buyers. The owner was down in Florida, I believe, and not quite up to dealing with a sale. But eventually it did come on the market, in 2013, at $780,000, and was immediately engulfed in a bidding war that drove its price to $876,000.
The winners of that war had it completely redone and put it back up for sale 20 days ago for $1.895 and today report a pending - not contingent - sale. Good for them. The house has its shortcomings, including the lack of a garage, but it's a nifty place all the same, in a great neighborhood and location.
It's rare to see the winner of a bidding war come out ahead, but in this case they did, probably because they didn't go overboard on redoing the place but focused instead on making it a livable, comfortable house again.
