Good question

I remember reading similar statistics for welfare in general a couple of decades ago: you could take whatever we were spending on welfare and give something like $75,000 (then) per year, to every single man, woman and child receiving benefits. But of course, doing away with the welfare industry would throw millions of state and federal WoRkErS [I’m told that alternate caps is the latest way to indicate sarcasm] out of their squishy jobs and force them to find gainful employment. Since the sole purpose of welfare is to provide jobs for bureaucrats, that’ll never happen.
