How bad are things in India?

From the western press’s coverage, the COVID pandemic looks horrible, and I imagine it is, but I’ve been following the Hindustan Times the past month or so and day after day, week after week, the “Most Read” articles aren’t about the disease. Here is today’s list of subjects readers most want to know about:

Bollywood

Cricket

TV

Cricket

Cricket.

Covid shows up sixth, under the category, Delhi News” — “COVID cases dip, daily oxygen demand down”.

I certainly know nothing about India, and the pictures in the press are horrifying: nothing good is going on there in regard to this disease, and people are clearly suffering, but I’ve been struck by this “most read” list — I haven’t seen COVID break the top-five in the month I’ve been checking. Perhaps English-speaking Indians who subscribe to the Hindustan Times are wealthier and more insulated from the ravages of Kung Flu and so have other matters of greater concern, like the travails of Bollywood stars, or, maybe, the Indian press is like ours when it comes to pandemic porn.

Just wondering.
