Oil pipelines, police departments, municipal governments, hospitals, even utility grids; ransom shutdowns have been occurring for at least a decade now and have spread worldwide. Whether they’re state-sponsored terrorism or is still just the work of independent criminal syndicates is almost irrelevant, because foreign governments can certainly expand the attacks, seemingly at will. We’ve seen what happens when our own government targets our economy; there’s no reason to believe our foreign enemies will be more benevolent.
