Dirt bikers pummel postal worker

Two bystanders intervened and rescued him, so that’s the good news. The bad news is that dirt bikes are a scourge of New York. They’re illegal to drive on the street, let alone sidewalks, but packs of thugs are doing just that, and driving law-abiding residents crazy.

“What’s up with the constant ATV brigade up and down Broadway all day and night? It’s totally annoying and actually scary!!” Allison Eden posted to the 15,000-member “Upper West Side Together” Facebook page earlier this month.

“There are no laws anymore. I’ve never really seen anything like this,” Eden, 51, told The Post. “I almost hit a brigade [of ATVs] once because I thought they were stopping, but they didn’t.”

But while complaints are up, enforcement is way down.

The NYPD has issued 10 ATV-related summonses in 2021 as of March 16, a department spokeswoman said. That number is on pace to fall short of the 77 summonses issued by the NYPD for all of 2019 and the 58 (a 25 percent decrease amid the pandemic) for all of 2020, the data shows.

This is not a black vs white issue — black residents are as vociferous in their complaints as whites on the Upper West Side, and Mayoral candidate Eric Adams traveled to a black neighborhood in Brooklyn to listen to their voices. Listen, but not do anything about it, because he claims to be powerless to stop it.

NYC, like all Democrat-run cities, has huge problems: a public school system that graduates just 7% of black 12th graders proficient in math is just one of them, but the impunity granted lawbreakers, from unlicensed drivers driving unlicensed vehicles on sidewalks, to drinking, smoking crack, and defecating on sidewalks, to CD “sellers” extorting tourists in Times Square all adds up.

I’ll admit, I’m a suburban/rural boy, and wouldn’t live in a city on a bet, but surely even urbanites must be growing tired of this. Too bad for them, they’re just going to have to get used to it, and watch it get worse.
