A nice house on Fox Run Lane

49 Fox Run Lane dropped its price today to $5.750 million. Its owners have long departed for Florida, I believe, and they’ve certainly been trying to unload this asset since 2005, so there’s probably even more room to negotiate than even this new price might indicate.

It’s a “Twatchman” design, constructed in 1927. A previous owner paid $4.1 for it in 1998, gutted the interior and then changed her plans and sold it “as is” to these owners in 2000 for $3.1.

They, in turn, completely rebuilt and expanded it, replacing the slate roof and all the mechanicals, windows, etc., and building a brand new interior. Ogilvy listed it at $11.5 in 2005, but David always did have a sense of humor, so we’ll pass a benign eye over that number. Still, it’s a great house, in an excellent location, and in, so far as I know, move-in condition. If this era home appeals, and it will to some, and won’t to others, a price in the mid-to-low $5s would seem to be a pretty good deal. Hell, maybe toss a high-$4s bid at it, just to see what happens. As your grandmother must have told you, “the answer is always ‘no’, if you don’t ask.”
