I mentioned a few months back that, after spreading its panic porn about COVID in India, the media has proceeded to ignore the good news

India’s largest state, Utter Pradesh, is now essentially COVID-free.

Overall, the state has a total of 199 active cases, while the positivity rate came down to less than 0.01 per cent. The recovery rate, meanwhile, has improved to 98.7 per cent. As per the state's health bulletin, Uttar Pradesh reported only 11 new Covid-19 cases and zero deaths in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases came out of 2.26 lakh [lakh= 1,000,000] samples that were tested in the last 24 hours. As of Friday, the state government has conducted 7.42 crore tests [a crore is 10,000,000] according to the data published by Uttar Pradesh's health department.

You may recall that India suffered badly from COVID early on, and the COVID porn press was all over the story. Then, last spring, there was, according to the U.S. and British media, a resurgence that was even worse, overwhelming hospitals and clearly signaling the end of India. At tat time, I posted that I’d checked the Hindustan Times, and the top stories, ranked according to readership, were reports of cricket game scores and Bollywood stars. Readership interest in COVID stories was insignificant, hardly the response you’d expect if the country was in its death throes. Or, put another way, “crickets”.

The India disaster stories faded from our own drive-by media’s view as fast as the virus itself, and there have been no follow-up stories in months. Because were never was a story, just deliberately created panic porn.
