Contract in Milbrook

170 Overlook Drive, asking $3.250 million.

First put on the market by the current owners in 2009 @$3.750, it’s been on and off since, with the penultimate effort ending when it was withdrawn in November 2019 after 476 days, priced at $3.150. It came back on this past May at $3.395, with better result.

Originally built in 1928, the house is part of Milbrook, a “carefully restricted” development — I’m assuming that was a reference to bans on then- undesirable races and religions (and chickens — deed restrictions from that era seem to have been inordinately focused on the raising of pigs and fowl). The project was paused by the Great Depression, during which time some land; now Morningside and Circle Drives, off Indian Field Road, was sold off, which is why the association has a nine, rather than an 18-hole golf course.

That’s all top-of-head history, mind you, and corrections from readers who know better will be cheerfully accepted. In any event, the house will soon be in new hands, the news of which is supposed to be (one of) the points of this blog.
