New Listing on Taconic; I hope it survives

155 Taconic Road, 1850 house, 7.5 acres, 2 separately deeded lots. It’s listed by John McAtee, who loves old houses as much as I do — in fact, I’d say that he specializes in them — but he’s listed it as both land and residence (as is appropriate), and includes this note with both:

Extraordinary opportunity to build anew, renovate structures, create unique, grand compound or maximize development on contiguous lots.

One day I may figure out why Greenwich has retained so few of its older houses. New Castle, New Hampshire, just outside of Portsmouth, still has houses built in 1660, while Greenwich, settled in 1640, has none. Even New Canaan and Westport have kept at least a few representative samples from their earliest days, and plenty of “modern” homes built in the 1800s. Not so here.
