Standing up for the little guy, Vladimir

hell, they don’t even know what game they’re playing

China refuses to broadcast Premier League games (it’s an organization of soccer teams, apparently) because of the League’s support of Ukraine.

“Confucius teach, always support diminutive dictators,” President Xi Jinping told adoring reporters, “or maybe it was that Lao Tsu guy — whatever — and if I may quote Calvin Coolidge, ‘we have to stick all together, or we’ll probably get hanged separately. “

So far, it appears that the Premier League has done nothing but put up a couple of stadium banners voicing support for Ukraine, but that is at least more than Coca-Cola has done: nothing. The company that blasted the (U.S.) state of Georgia for reforming its election laws has nothing to say about the country that provides 21% of its revenue.

By the way, and just to show that I’m an equal-opportunity offendee, I find those right-wing, tough-guy journalists calling for blood and guts and destruction in Ukraine while wearing came jackets and sitting safely in their studios back home obnoxious, just as I do idiot senators calling for the assassination of Putin and a U.S. air war over there. Just shut up.

UPDATE: Just after I posted this, a report showed up on my screen saying that there’s a boycott of Coke brewing. I think boycotts like this are sort of silly (although I’ve refused to buy Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for years), but it’s a popular tactic of the left, so why not pay back in kind? My problem with this is that I’ve probably had, maybe, six sodas in the past fifty years, but maybe I can don my own camouflage jacket and cheer on the boycotters from the sidelines.

Calls to boycott Coca-Cola products reached a fever pitch Friday afternoon as the beverage company reportedly signaled it would continue doing business in Russia amid the invasion of Ukraine.

Three Ukrainian supermarket chains announced they would remove Coca-Cola products from their shelves, and #BoycottCocaCola became the No. 1 national trending Twitter topic Friday afternoon after a spokesperson for the beverage company's exclusive bottler in Russia reportedly told a Russian state-owned news agency that it would continue all business operations in the country.
