Leaked draft opinion signals that the Supreme Court is overturning Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court is undoing Roe v. Wade, a landmark 1973 case that led to the creation of a constitutional right to an abortion, according to a leaked draft majority opinion memo. 

The document, obtained by Politico, is for the case known as Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, and references the 1992 ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Casey as well as Roe. 

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Samuel Alito said in the opinion, which was circulated within the court. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.” 

A leak such as this unprecedented. A Supreme Court representative declined to comment to the news outlet.

I assume that, if this story is true, the leak came from a deranged court clerk. If the leaker was one of the justices acting to stir up a political firestorm, I predict that the country will survive the return of abortion laws to the states far more easily than it will the destruction of the Court.

UPDATE: Reading the Politico article, it does seem to be a genuine draft, but one that was drafted in February, so who knows what June will bring. But leaking any Supreme Court draft opinion has never been done before, and I view this as a sign of deep trouble to come, as trusted law clerks break their oaths (and the law, probably) and start sabotaging the court.
