Illiteracy and abysmal ignorance isn't* just confined to the current crop of college graduates: Mazie Hirono is 74-years-old, and a 1978 law graduate of Georgetown University

If only someone had written it down!

Senator Mazie Hirono, (D. Hawaii) wrinkles her furrowed brow and asks a deep, deep question, one usually asked in college dorms during late night acid/wine/pot sessions: “who knows what anyone really thinks, man. I mean … wow.”

There’s probably nothing better documented in our country’s history than the drafting of our constitution and the intent of the drafters, and the legislators who adopted it. If she ever visits Washington, Miss Mazie could wander over to the Library of Congress and read the original Federalist Papers, or maybe they’re in the National Archives Museum; a staffer could find out for her, but to save her that effort, I’ll provide a link to them here. And — this will really surprise the old bag lady — all sorts of interesting people wrote voluminously and gave speeches on how the country’s constitution should be framed and, afterward, what it all meant. The writers were all white, male oppressors, sadly, but nonetheless, since they wrote the damn thing, their work is a pretty good starting point for a senator seeking to learn “what the heck the founding fathers meant”.

*before we get into another “lay-lie” grammar kerfuffle, I’ll just say that, to my ear, “illiteracy and abysmal ignorance” is a paired combination, so I’m going with the singular – sue me
