Biden “shocked” by Highland Park parade shooting, rushes feds to the city
Highland Park’s population is mostly white, and suburban, so our president’s concern is understandable. Meanwhile, in the darker part of Chicago, life, and death, continues as normal:

Of course, the weekend’s not yet over. “Last year, 19 people were killed and more than 100 people were shot over the long Fourth of July weekend.”
“I’m sure the President is waiting for the final tally before expressing his deep shock and horror”, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told FWIW after being informed for the first time of these shootings, “but it’s safe to assume that he’ll be issuing another call for a crackdown on gasoline retailers.”
Last weekend 19 residents were wounded, and 5 killed, including a 5-month-old child. There was no reaction by Biden, then or now. “That was last week”, Jean-Pierre said, “and the president’s memory doesn’t go back that far, so he won’t be commenting.”
According to Giffords Law Center, an organization that advocates for gun control, Illinois requires universal background checks, gun owner licensing, lost and stolen firearm reporting, waiting periods and has minimum age laws, open carry reporting, community violence intervention funding, risk protection orders and domestic violence gun laws.
In other news from the Windy City, a Chicago police officer was ambushed with gunfire while responding to a domestic incident Friday. He was shot multiple times in the torso and arm and was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The man in that shooting was taken into custody and charged.
The latest act of violence happened Sunday morning when a crowd attacked a \ Chicago police squad cars in Portage Park at the Six Corners intersection.
The group can be seen kicking the doors and punching [smashing, in fact — ED] the windshields of the vehicles. An officer was treated for minor injuries.
The crimes come after city leaders on Friday provided an update on public safety -- saying there will be an increased presence of officers throughout the city for the holiday weekend. Mayor Lori Lightfoot also urged parents and guardians to have a plan for their children and to, "know where they are, and who they are with."
UPDATE: Sniper has been identified as one Bobby Crimo III, a (white) rapper. If we’re in for another round of gun laws, I’d begin, and be content with, facial tattoos being a disqualifier for gun ownership.
