I saw a headline (I didn’t read past it for the story) that claimed that the would-be rescuers have been hearing a pipe clanging every half-hour from the sub. If so, that’s horrible news; the sub’s doomed, and better had it depressurized and killed everyone inside instantly rather than the poor people slowly suffocating over five days.

And going forward, be very, very careful about flying in a jet, crossing a bridge, or undergoing surgery — make sure of the race, gender, and sexual preference of the pilots, designers and surgeons, and insist that they be white or Asian straight males over 50.
