A change in Old Greenwich

189 Sound Beach Avenue, which has been listed for sale since November at $1,999,999, is reported under contract. Raveis was a tenant for a while, which explains the awning, but it’s been gone for some time now. I spent a year or so there when I was a Raveis agent, and it was certainly convenient to home and Old Greenwich businesses, though hardly luxurious quarters.

The listing describes it thus: “Past usage was a Real Estate Office in front unit and a Pluming company in the rear unit”, but I don’t believe anyone ever sold feathers from the back of the building, because it was the home for many years — maybe even stretching back to the year the building went up, 1910 — of the SP. Palmer & Son plumbing business. In fact, although both Paul Palmer and his son, Timmy, are deceased, and the business closed, the family still owns this entire building.

Still, it’s sort of sad to see the Palmer name on the way out; the Palmers have been around pretty much since the founding of the town — you may have traveled up Palmer Hill, or even lived at Palmer Point — and Paul Palmer was one of the best people in town.
