Contract on French Road (off lower Rogues Hill)

36 French Road, $8.950 million. It’s been on the market for 79 days, so I wouldn’t think that there were multiple bidders to drive that price up. Then again, markets change, so we’ll wait to see the final price.

The house was custom built by Hobbs for the original owners in 2000, so top-quality is assured. Ironically, that owner was the retired CEO of a huge real estate investment firm, yet, although he tried to sell it for $9.250 in 2018, he had no luck until these owners showed up in 2020 and paid him just $5.4. I’m sure he could afford the hit — and with Hobbs as contractor, it was almost certainky sold at a loss — but, as I say, it was kind of ironic.
