Yeah, but they've got their transgender policy down pat

Navy cancels its new destroyer class's sole weapon system after figuring out that $800,000 per missile shot at a rate of ten per minute was too expensive. Number of proposed ships was cut from 28 to 3, raising the missile's cost per unit to an unacceptable level.

The US Navy’s largest and most advanced destroyer is equipped with two massive guns that can hit targets from 80 miles away – but it can’t afford the ammunition.

At $800,000 or more per round for each gun, the Navy says the cost is just too high, and is now moving to cancel these projectiles, according to a new report from Defense News.

Bosses have admitted the guns will remain silent when the ship enters service - but have pledged to develop alternative projectiles in the future.

Okay, so we'll soon be receiving three foursome looking but impotent ships into our defense force, but so what? We are also about to have the most caring, sensitive group of seamen ever to serve our nation, and there's no limit to what that sort of modern, progressive navy can achieve, even without missiles. Love is all you need.

In September, the Navy announced that every single sailor in the fleet will receive sensitivity training on transgenders and their special needs. No cost estimate was given for shutting down work across the world, but it's probably less than the cost of just one destroyer, so an economy has been effected.

More price woes

42 Lower Cross Road 42 Lower Cross Road, technically in Conyers Farm, cut its price again today by another $300,000 and is now asking $5.195; its price back in 2015 was an optimistic $6.995. I really like this house, just as I like the similar home at 50  Guards Road, which started at $7.950 in 2013 and remains unsold today at $5.975, but the market's gone south, literally, and there are currently 10 homes in Conyers Farm actively for sale, and from what I hear, even more that are "quietly" for sale.

I foresee a (slow) race to the bottom for these two. 50 Guards Road sold for $5.750 million in 2000, but today, probably not.

125 Pecksland Road

Further down the road and to the west, 125 Pecksland Road also cut its price, to $11.495 million, down from its June start at $12.995. The owner paid $11.1 for it in 2001, and I'm guessing that he won't even see that number, despite the improvements he's poured into this place: The market for 14,500 sq.ft houses is as thin as the market for $11 million houses in general: there are 11 for sale in Greenwich priced between $10.5-$12 million (and 47 total over $10.5), and just one has sold in the past 12 months.

Well this is a shame

56 Clapboard Ridge What are the odds that the use that replaces it will be as gracious and appealing? I'd guess zilch. Greenwich Free Press reports that the old house at 56 Clapboard Ridge is being torn down by its new owners.

It's a beautiful, 1840 house, completely renovated, that sold to these people for $8.750 million in June, 2015, so I'm puzzled by their decision to raze it. That's far above land value, so I can only assume that they bought with an eye to keeping it but changed their minds for some reason. Private property still belongs to its owner in this town (sort of), so they're free to do what they please, but I wish they'd sell it to someone who'd appreciate the house for what it is, and buy some other land to build a new home.

And henchmen

John Harwood, a NYT reporter, MNBC's Washington Bureau Chief and the moderator of one of the Republican primary debates, asks John Podesta* for instructions on what questions to ask Republican Jeb Bush. *John David Podesta is the Chairman of the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. UPDATE: Washington Post columnist and Hillary Hore Dana Milbank is caught in another Podesta email asking the Clinton campaign for its negative research on Trump. So he's not only a whore, he's a lazy one. Tch tch.

Gangster Government

The President of the United States urges illegal aliens to vote, promises no repercussions. Reporter asks Obama whether "Dreamers" - illegal aliens - should fear the INS tracking them down if they vote. Not a problem, he assures her, and them.

UPDATE: Snopes has the actual transcript and Obama did not say this - the tape was edited. I'm leaving this post up so readers won't wonder what happened to it, but it's wrong.
