Could this possibly be true? I guess we'll soon find out

never source

Eversource estimates 50%-69% of its customers could be without power for 8-21 days.

Nah, never happen. Right?

It looks to me that the fun will all be to our east, not in Greenwich/NYC, but the popular press must have its hype, so its attention is focused on NYC, which most of its audience has heard of, rather than, say, Branford or E. Windsor. Wherever it hits, three weeks without power would seem … excessive.

This'll get you banned on Facebook and Twitter

Popular blue surgical face masks do NOT stop people from getting or giving the Chinese Flu

We’ve always known that, but The Daily Mail has escaped from behind the Twitter bar to tell us again.

But masking has never been about stopping disease; it’s theatre, a demand for an outward display of obeisance by the little people. And in that regard, it’s done very well.

Yarusevych and team said that many people wear masks that don't fit their faces properly, unlike the N95, which straps itself tightly around the wearer.

This causes aerosol droplets to escape through multiple openings between a person's face and the cloth mask, which could spread COVID-19 in populous areas.

The N95 was conversely able to filter over 50% of aerosol droplets while the other half is dispersed above the wearer's head.

Yarusevych team added that ventilation tests revealed even modest ventilation rates provide about the same level of protection as the highest quality masks.

Kampalla waves goodbye to Americans stuck in Kabul

see ya later, alligators!

Red Slate: Do these people even have advisers? That’s a serious question. Where are the staffers in Harris’ orbit to say that this looks completely tone-deaf? Thousands of Americans are stuck behind enemy lines with no way to get out and the VP is posting glamor shots on Twitter of her ignoring the situation? Keep in mind, she has not even commented on the ongoing disaster in Afghanistan yet.

Buy a generator? It's too late for Henri, but not for the next storm

(your needs may vary)

(your needs may vary)

I lost my power this morning and was reminded, again, of what a pain it is to be without water (well pump goes out), internet, stove, even Sirrus. My power was restored after just two hours, but we've had at least two hurricanes and a couple of ice storms hit Greenwich in the not-too-distant past that have knocked out power for up to 8-9 days. That’s inconvenient.

So here’s an unpaid, unsolicited plug for my good friend and Greenwich resident Lou Van Leeuwen, who besides owning/running the custom home company Greenwich Construction, is the local Generac dealer, at Greenwich Power Supply.

Lou and his crew can calculate your power needs, install a Generac, and service it over the years. Generac’s a good product, one of the best, and Lou is good folks.

Now maybe he’ll take me out striper fishing.

They’re on River Road in Cos Cob, the number is (203) 900-1122, which you should write down; your internet is likely to be down when you need it.

A related story: I have an electrician friend (two friends? Who knew?) who sized and installed a generator for a McMansion in the back country a while ago, and some months later received a furious call from the owner during one of our multi-day power failures. My then 87-year-old mother, along with much of the town, had been without heat or lights for a week by then, but this homeowner had a more serious problem: while the generator was doing an admirable job keeping the actual house going, it was not of sufficient size to keep both the pool and the tennis court lights on simultaneously! No kidding — the guy was bellowing in fury, and if my friend hadn’t hung up on him, he‘d have had his feelings seriously hurt.

Don’t be that guy.

Global Warming: Is there nothing it can't do?

I blame gore

CBS News blames global warming for causing the rise of the Taliban

It seems likely that, to get a job as a reporter or editor at a national news organization like CBS an applicant must show at least some evidence of having studied … something. A college degree, perhaps, or even a master’s in journalism. Whatever is required, articles like this prove that credentials in our modern, woke world are worthless.

As an aside, the writer and her editors might want to reflect on the fact that Afghanistan is a natural desert, with less than an eighth of its area comprising arable land, and only 30% of that actually farmed — they herd sheep instead,

They might also want to consider that the country was deforested over the centuries, the trees going up in smoke as fuel. Only a 12-year-old special-needs scribbler could overlook the effects of denuding a land and instead blame global warming for the ensuing catastrophe.

Biden will keep Mexican and Canadian borders closed until at least the end of September

The Biden administration will continue to bar noncitizens from entering the United States at ports of entry along the Canadian and Mexican borders through Sept. 21, marking the 15th month the travel ban has been renewed.

The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that nonessential travelers from outside the U.S. will not be permitted to travel into America at the country’s land borders despite Canada’s reversing its policy earlier this month.

I seriously thought I was reading this headline wrong — Biden’s already admitted 1 million illegal aliens into the country and released them, COVID or not, to roam about the country, and another million are expected by the end of the year. But he’s banning legitimate travelers? Are you frigg’in kidding me?!!

But no, it’s true.

p.s. I’m too lazy to dig it up, but does anyone else remember that Biden spokesman who back in April, pressed on the record number of illegal aliens swarming across the border, claimed that “this is the migratory season, and it will drop off drastically once the weather gets hot” ? May, June and July have all set new records.
