My advice to all you home improvementers out there: don't let them in.

Neologism aside, if you're one of the many townies who has improved your home either without, or exceeding, an issued building permit, you may want to decline the request of the appraiser who shows up at your door seeking entry. They're coming, and it's your civic duty to let them in so that they can raise your taxes to support your neighbors, but you have no legal obligation to do so. 

Just sayin'.
