Aww, another one down
/31 Crown Road has sold for $1.7 million, a tad above its asking price of $1.695. Owned by the late Jerry Dumas and his now-widow Gail, I’m delighted that it sold so quickly, and at a good price, but it’s surely a land deal — Steve Cohen’s $40 million palace is across the road, and there’s nothing cheap about the neighboring houses either — but I’ll miss Jerry’s place.
A couple of decades ago I was honored to be invited to join “Thursdays at Jerry’s” luncheons, where Jerry, Greenwich icon Bernie Yudain, and other writers and artists from around town would meet, laugh, and argue over sandwiches and beer. It was a golden time, when politics didn’t determine friendships, and intelligent discussions could be mixed with jabs and jokes, with no harm intended or taken.
I hope this home’s demise isn’t symbolic of a permanent destruction of that ideal.
