Those Fountain boys; always causing trouble
/From my cousin Ed. Not sure of date, but I’d guess NYC 1870 or so. And there’s Gideon, just beginning to plot wicked doings.
UPDATE: Family historian and apostate, Brother Anthony, S.J., adds the following:
I'm assuming Gerard Fountain is the youngest looking one (and boy, is he young looking). Gideon E. (for Egbert) was Gerard's older brother and Uncle George was the eldest brother. I'm not sure which is which.
Gerard didn't care for Uncle George. He thought he was dull and far, far worse, became a Baptist. Dad or Aunt Audrey--can't remember whom, maybe both--told me of hearing their father saying, "I hope those Baptist Fountains don't come to my funeral."
Those three, by the way, must have been the ones who built John Caldwell's splendid Berkshire "Cottage" in Stockbridge.
