If you don't have to commute to the city, this house in Fairfield looks pretty nice

1111 Sasco Hill Road, Fairfield, has sold for $6.2 million, a tad over its the-asking price of $5.999. Custom built in 1997 for these owners, 12,000 sq. ft., 3 acres, and views of Long Island Sound, but not directly on it: that’s a plus when the Nor’ Easters roar in.

Interesting price history: originally listed September 14th for $6.950, it dropped to that $5.999 price five weeks later, and that, in turn, produced at least two interested buyers.

The owners paid $3.250 for the land in 1996, and I’m guessing that construction costs were high enough to preclude a profit here, but they enjoyed a pretty spectacular home for 25 years, who’s complaining? Probably not them.

Again, Fairfield’s a lousy commute if you have to travel to New York every day, but otherwise, you certainly get a lot more for your money twenty miles up the road.
