One of the old Mead homes is pending

114 John Street, the “Mead-Lounsbury House” built in 1825 and priced at $2.795, is reported pending.

This is great house. It still has almost six, beautiful acres of its original land, with much of the other acreage now part of the Audubon preserve. When I last saw the house it was owned by a carpenter and his wife who were restoring it. I don’t know if they completed the job or the next owners did, but it’s now, to my thinking, a perfect example of how to bring an early-19th Century home into the 21st without losing any of its charm. I envy the new owners.

this barn was brought down from Vermont, reassembled, and a professional workshop installed; I don’t know if the present owners kept the workshop, but the barn itself is in far better shape than its age might suggest.
