Alert policing — they noticed a subtle clue, and pounced
/DUI for Driver Spotted Traveling with Two Safety Cones Wedged Under His Car
On Jan 29 around 10:00pm Greenwich Police spotted a car headed east on Mill Street with two plastic traffic cones wedged underneath.
After police stopped the car they observed the driver to have glassy eyes and detected the odor of alcohol.
Now, I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the cops had a reasonable suspicion that something might be wrong with this driver, and were right to stop him and investigate, but I wonder how the stop would be treated in LA and other large, woke cities that have banned “routine” traffic stops on the ground that they discriminate against black people, stops that supposedly are " arbitrary, capricious and a reflection of an individual's implicit or explicit bias(es)."
Expired license tags, running stop signs, and driving with broken headlamps can now all be done with impunity in those cities — will driving with a couple of rubber cones stuck in the undercarriage be considered as minor as running stop signs, or would it justify a stop? Time will tell.
