Give it this much: the prices of back country lots have defied inflation.

371 Taconic Road, four acres astride the Stamford border, has closed at $1.850 million, 1,285 days after it was first offered to lucky buyers at $2.690. Lots up here have sold in the $1.5 - $2 million range for a couple of decades now, so this sale is in line with those numbers. The sellers paid $2.350 for the land in 2010, but life is funny like that, alas.

I was struck by this listing agent’s advice to savvy buyers: “Do not wait to buy land - buy land, build and wait!”. A curious strategy.
