They're all scams, and the fraud has been written about before, but when even the New Yorker notices, that's something
/Carbon offsetting firm nothing but a giant scam
Tree planting, land preserves, solar farms: you name it, they’ve all been debunked, but the people buying these offsets, including woke corporations and manufacturers, celebrities and politicians who don’t want to give up their yachts and jets don’t care. It wouldn’t matter if it were just the Leonardo DiCaprios of the world being ripped off, because who gives a hot damn where their money goes? But when manufacturer are buying these indulgences the cost gets passed on to consumers, and that sucks.
Plus, the clouds of hypocrisy generated by this scheme contributes more noxious methane gas than any other man made source, and will bring about the end of the world in 12 years or less.
My latest for @NewYorker. The world's largest carbon offsetting firm sold environmentally worthless credits, while the developer of its biggest project secretly moved of tens of millions of $ paid by Gucci, Porsche, Nestlé & others into offshore accounts. https://t.co/Z1dJEDwrz4
