One mystery is solved: Ada's is on the market, but what's next? (UPDATED)

Showing an unusual alertness for such a dozy boy, Brother Gideon has alerted me to the newest addition to our MLS inventory, Ada’s candy shop, asking $3.250 million. The price includes sister Cheta’s house next door. Who knows hat will be replacing these structures, but if you see Joey “8-30g” Pecora sniffing around the premises, load and lock.

UPDATE: I’ve received an email from one of the owners last night, explained what happened. The family had every intention of continuing the business as is, but when news of the closing of the current restaurant hit the local press and blogs, they began receiving quite a few unsolicited inquiries from potential buyers of the property and, quite understandably, reconsidered, because of the amounts being offered. So they’ve listed it publicly to see if there are higher offers out there before accepting one of the private bids.

I’m a staunch proponent of free markets and property rights, so I see nothing wrong (although I’ll be sad to see Ada’s close) with a family deciding that cash now is preferable to a lower rate of return earned selling gourmet sandwiches.
