Trump continues to disintegrate
/Such a week for the Orang Man, and it’s only Thursday. He’s attacked his most loyal, able aide, denounced Ron DeSantis for voting to confirm Trump’s own hand-picked director of the FBI (a ludicrous position to take in any event, but also, DeSantis was a congressman at the time, and only senators participate in confirmation votes), sucked up to and praised Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the COVID panic, and condemned DeSantis for closing Florida’s beaches (which he himself urged states to do, and criticized Georgia’s governor for reopening stores and public facilities “too soon”.) And he’s just warming up; he’ll be on Fox News tonight with his lickspittle puppet Sean Hannity and though I won’t be watching — I don’t subscribe to any cable stuff — I’m confident he’ll say another dozen stupid things that will further alienate all but the most rabid of his supporters.
Of which there are many, of course. As of today, I see only two outcomes in 2024: Trump will win the nomination, in which case we’ll lose the general election, or he won’t win the primary and will go on to run by himself, in which case he’ll drain 15% of the vote that would otherwise go to the Republican nominee, and we’ll lose the general election.
Sad.
