A white Connecticut state trooper was acquitted of all charges Friday in the death of Mubarak Soulemane, a Black 19-year-old community college student who was shot as he sat behind the wheel of a stopped stolen car holding a kitchen knife and apparently in the throes of a mental health crisis.
A white trooper, a black “community college student” sitting behind the wheel of a stolen car while holding a knife. What the story doesn’t mention is that this young scholar had carjacked the vehicle at knifepoint and then led the police in a car chase up I-95 at speeds up to 90 mph before being stopped. He was brandishing that same knife as he “sat behind the wheel” and lunged at another cop. He was shot. The state wanted a sentence of up to 10 years; the jury felt otherwise, and good for them
