Democrats’ job plan: grow the government

Only a far-right MAGA Republican would dare ask, “if these jobs are all funded with taxpayers’ money, and produce no new value, what happens when we run out of money and the transfer from the productive to the consumptive class stops?”

And then there’s this:

JOBS: Payrolls Rise 206K After Huge Downward Revisions As Unemployment Rate Jumps To Three Year High. “In keeping with the BLS’ other favorite gimmick of representing part-time jobs growth as the primary driver of the US labor market, in June, the number of part-time workers rose 50K to 28.1 million while full-time workers dropped by 28K. This means that since June 2023, the US has added 1.8 million part-time jobs and lost 1.6 million fulL-time jobs.”

THE U.K. BLOWOUT: MARK STEYN’S VIEW

Mark Steyn comments on yesterday’s U.K. election ….

Across the United Kingdom almost every constituency voted for lefties of various stripes – not just victorious Labour lefties, but also Scots nationalist lefties, Irish republican lefties, eco-lefties, Islamo-lefties and, of course, duplicitous pseudo-conservative lefties: you can get it in any colour as long as it’s red. So, if you’re one of those Britons concerned about, say, transformative mass migration or the right to freedom of speech, things are going to spend the next few years getting worse before there is any prospect of course correction.

“Red” in the U.K. is blue in America.

This is not 1997, and Starmer is not Blair. Sir Keir has pulled off what the commentators are calling a “loveless landslide”. He was the beneficiary, in England, of the implosion of the Conservative Party and, north of the border, of the implosion of the Scottish National Party – both entirely deserved. Yet Labour’s share of the vote is five points lower than Jeremy Corbyn’s supposedly humiliating defeat in 2017: in fact, it is the lowest share of the vote for any majority-winning party ever – just thirty-five per cent.

Attention, Dan Quigley and friends:

The Conservative Party’s fundamental problem is that it stopped being conservative:

Effective politicians don’t “move towards the centre”; they move the centre towards them, as Mrs Thatcher and President Reagan did. Instead, the Conservatives squandered fourteen years playing on the left’s terms, and the result is a political culture that has never been less conservative, and a land where nothing works, from the creepily fetishised National Health Service to the wanker constabulary.
***
Mrs Thatcher’s famous line was: First you win the argument; then you win the election. The “Conservative” party spent fourteen years not making any conservative arguments, and thus last night was entirely predictable.

I'm so old, I remember when Dan Quigley at least pretended to be a Republican

A “Greenwich Republican”, admittedly, which is essentially just a Democrat in a Brioni blazer and Breton Bermudas, but still, a decade or so ago, you wouldn’t have found this now-former chairman of the local Republican Town Committee advising his fellow Democrats on election strategy and urging them to nominate a petty dictator like Gretchen Whitmer

QUIGLEY: It’s Time To Step Aside, Mr. President

“National Democrats have made this campaign about saving our democracy from Mr. Trump, a twice impeached and recently convicted felon whose authoritarian tendencies, proclivity to distort the truth and vows of exacting retribution upon his enemies warrant an extraordinary counter effort in order to prevent his reascension to power.

…. “By making the decision to step aside and putting his country ahead of party and personal ambition, Mr. Biden would ensure that his legacy [a legacy Quigley approves of, which says it all] would rest on solid ground with this final, selfless gesture. If stepping aside were to lead to a second defeat of Mr. Trump it would forever cement his place in history in the eyes of many Americans.”

“This leaves nominating a viable replacement as the essential next step in this important process. The Democrats have a deep bench of candidates from which to choose. Some are more problematic than others. Among the best options are Michigan Governor Gretchan Whitmer and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, both of whom are young and popular governors in crucially important battleground states. A Whitmer/Shapiro ticket could generate the type of excitement that President Biden is simply incapable of producing. It would also likely attract critically important Independent and Undecided voters as well as disenfranchised Republicans [like Quigley] who will not vote for Mr. Trump and who are have grave concerns about the President’s physical and cognitive ability.

>>>>

…. Mr. Trump has chosen to run a campaign based on the bleak theme that America is a “third world country” in perpetual decline, whose borders are being invaded by criminals and terrorists and whose streets are a cesspool of lawlessness. Despite the preposterousnous (sic) of these claims, [“we certainly don’t see this sort of distasteful behavior in Belle Haven”] … Only a younger, more energetic candidate [has] the vigor that is necessary to defeat Mr. Trump.

I am a lifelong Republican [uh huh] , and I will not be voting for Mr. Trump. But millions of Americans will. To avoid a second, more destructive Trump administration and in order to reinvigorate the Democratic and anti-Trump voter bases [who have now merged] it is apparent that the best course of action is for President Biden to withdraw his name as a candidate for the presidency and to pledge his considerable campaign organization and resources to support a younger, more capable candidate.

>>>>

“In a recent interview, MAGA thought leader Steve Bannon described the movement as such; “We’re not reasonable. We’re unreasonable because we’re fighting for a republic. And we’re never going to be reasonable until we get what we achieve. We’re not looking to compromise. We’re looking to win.”. …. Let that sink in for a moment.”

Classic Quigley: “let’s compromise with our friends across the aisle, let’s find a good Democrat to lead the country while we docile Republicans help them achieve their goal of transforming America into a woke paradise, with justice for all”. Someone like Gretchen Whitmer, who shut locked down her state for months, kept the schools closed for years, has vowed to close down “Pipeline 5”, which supplies Michigan’s Upper Peninsula residents with the propane 55% of them use to heat their homes, and is an unabashed captive of Michigan’s state employees union — now that’s a candidate Quigley can support.

Quigley want’s to preserve his president’s legacy, which encompasses:

  • Fleeing Afghanistan, leaving Americans behind to die and millions of dollars of military weapons and equipment for the Taliban’s use;

  • Handing Iran hundreds of millions of dollars to fund its terrorist attacks on America and Israel;

  • Giving Russia a green light to invade Ukraine “as long as it’s just a ‘minor incursion’ (remember?)

  • Opening our borders to tens of millions of penniless, illiterate “newcomers” from around the world and failing to screen them for criminal and terrorist ties;

  • Defying the Supreme Court by using taxpayers’ money to pay off billions of dollars of other people’s student loan debts;

  • Printing trillions of dollars of imaginary money and releasing it into the economy;

  • Appointing hundreds of far-left federal judges to our courts;

  • Shutting down oil exploration and future production and blocking pipelines;

  • Forcing impractical, expensive electric cars on Americans who don’t want them, can’t use them, and can’t afford them

— we could go on, but this is the legacy, these are the policies that Quigley wants to see continue. Not since 1860 has a national election decided the fate and direction of our nation, but this year’s will, and Quigley is now a full-throated supporter of the Democrats’ vision of America. I‘d tell him to go to hell, but if his side wins, we’re all going to be there together, and I can speak to him personally.

The hits keep coming: Now Joe thinks he's a black tranvestite serving under Corn Pop

Even that suck-up Stephanopolous is going to have a hard time protecting Biden from himself tomorrow’s daytime show, and Joe’s handlers must have figured that out; they’re going to limit the interview to just 15 minutes in the hope that he can at least make it that long. Doubtful. but it’ll be fun to watch.

It's not our fault, they MADE us do it!

Can You Guess Who White House Reporters Blame for Their Decision Not To Expose Biden’s Mental Decline?

“We had to prop up the president and lie to our readers because the right wing media would have been proved right.”

"Some members of the White House press corps who have regular exposure to President Biden are now admitting they were 'turned off' from exposing his mental decline before last week's debate in part because of the attention it has got from 'right-wing media,'" reports Fox News.

"Since Biden's shocking debate performance, the legacy media has faced intense backlash from critics accusing them of participating in a cover-up on behalf of the president," the report continued.

CNN reported Tuesday that reporters working from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. are now expressing regret for not pursuing the political bombshell more seriously.

However, some are admitting they didn't want to feed into the "right-wing talking point" about 81-year-old Biden.

"Biden’s age was also a right-wing talking point for years, something the White House was quick to point out to reporters, which may have inadvertently turned off any serious investigation," CNN reported.

The report accused "right-wing media figures" of sharing "deceptively edited clips" of Biden, citing the one from the G7 Summit where Biden stepped away from other world leaders to give a thumbs up to parachutists off-camera, prompting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to corral him back to the group for a photo-op, rejecting allegations he was "wandering off."

"The right-wing media was calling him senile from day one, and that wasn’t true," one unnamed reporter told CNN. "Then whenever you report on the age you were in some ways solidifying, giving credence to some people that were actually of bad faith."

He forgot, or he lied? He says there’s nothing wrong with his memory, so ...

why won’t you believe me?!!!

WH press secretary says president did not have medical exam after debate

Hours after the White House told reporters that President Biden had not had any recent medical exams, the president reportedly contradicted his press secretary by telling governors that he had a recent medical checkup.

When pressed about the president's health during a press briefing on Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explicitly told reporters that Biden has not had any medical exams since his last annual physical.

"Has the president had any medical exams since his last annual physical in February?" CNN's Min Jung "MJ" Lee asked.

"And got – and we were able to talk to the – to his doctor about that, and that is a no," Jean-Pierre said.

Jean-Pierre reiterated that the 81-year-old president had not received any kind of medical exam.

"He hasn’t had any kind of medical exam?" Jung said.

"No," Jean-Pierre replied.

Jean-Pierre's comments came just hours before Biden met with Democrat governors at the White House on Wednesday night.

According to the New York Times, Biden told governors that had seen the White House physician to check on the cold his campaign said that he had during the presidential debate against Trump.

When questioned about the seemingly contradictory comments, the White House sent the following statement to Fox News Digital:

"Several days later, the President was seen to check on his cold and was recovering well," the White House press office clarified.

So, according to the White House, Ol’ Dependables had not seen a doctor before KJP’s press conference, and three hours later he told the Governors that he had, and now the story is that he did see a doctor, but “several day later”. So why’d he tell the governors that he already had?

Plus this:

Biden also reportedly told governors that he would no longer schedule events after 8 p.m. so he could "get more sleep," the outlet reported.

We’ll just have to hope that the Chinese don’t hit us or Taiwan past 8:00 PM our time.

The city's been a hellhole of addiction, homelessness and crime for years, so this will be a relief to the still-remaining law-abiding residents

Ruais Wants to Close Manchester’s Homeless Camp ‘Loophole’

Manchester’s police are hamstrung when dealing with the twin crises of homelessness and addiction, thanks in part to a city ordinance that allows homeless people to camp on public property, according to mayoral candidate Jay Ruais.

The lone Republican in the race to replace Democrat Joyce Craig, Ruais is backing an effort to change the city ordinance prohibiting camping on public property. Under ordinance 130.13, police cannot currently stop someone from setting up a tent on city property. That needs to change, Ruais said.

“We have a significant homelessness crisis in our city, and it is impacting the community at large. In order to make sure our businesses are thriving, and the quality of life for residents and visitors to Manchester is not threatened, we must give our police and first responders the proper tools to address this issue,” Ruais said.

Alderman At Large Joseph Kelly Levasseur is pushing a change to the ordinance to make it easier for police to keep people from sleeping on the streets. The ordinance currently prohibits the camps, but with a loophole: It allows homeless people to stay on the street if no shelter space is available.

Levasseur wants the Board of Aldermen to remove that exception, allowing police to enforce the camping prohibition. Camping on public property without a permit carries a possible $250 fine. Ruais said enforcing ordinances against camping is an important step toward addressing the city’s homeless problem.

“We must deal with this issue in a comprehensive way, one that includes enforcement of our ordinances, addressing the underlying causes of this crisis like addiction and mental health while increasing the availability of affordable housing. What we cannot do is govern in fear of lawsuits, and I support this proposed ordinance change,” Ruais said.

Manchester has struggled for years with its homeless crisis. In 2021, the city had about 360 unsheltered people, according to the NH Coalition to End Homelessness annual report. According to city officials, that number has jumped to about 540 people this year.

Much of the homeless population lives in tents and shelters scattered throughout the city, leaving many residents feeling unsafe in their neighborhoods. Craig, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, acknowledged this year that half of the city’s opioid overdose cases happen in homeless camps.

The issue is expected to be front and center in the governor’s race next year if Craig defeats Executive Councilor Warmington for the Democratic nomination.

Asked recently about Craig’s candidacy, Gov. Chris Sununu replied, “Seriously, does anyone want the state of New Hampshire run like Manchester?”

Craig has attempted to blame Sununu and the state government for Manchester’s homeless problem.

“Manchester and communities across the state have been working to address the growing homelessness crisis for years, and mayors have repeatedly asked for the state to collaborate with us to find solutions,” Craig said in a May 2023 statement. “Our communities need a partner in Concord who understands that we can only solve this homelessness crisis if we all work together.”

November 7 2023:

Ruais wins Manchester mayoral race, as voters across state cast ballots in local elections

First-time candidate Jay Ruais was the big winner in New Hampshire’s municipal elections Tuesday, claiming a narrow victory in a closely-fought race to become the next mayor of Manchester.

The campaign between Ruais — a National Guard member and former Republican congressional staffer — and Democratic Alderman Kevin Cavanaugh turned on core economic issues like housing, downtown revitalization, and homelessness in the state’s largest city. But in cities across the state Tuesday, voters voiced similar concerns about their local economies as they cast ballots in races for mayor, city council and other municipal positions.

"The homelessness issue we have here, as well as the costs of housing, are probably the biggest issues for me,” said Brendan Grothe, a voter in Manchester’s Ward 11. “So I'm voting for whoever I think has got the best ideas to try and address those issues."

And it was $1.69 on Inauguration Day, 2021

I did that

White House touts $3.49 gas, one cent cheaper than last July 4th

I happen to remember that because I filled my tank that day and while I was standing by the pump, remembered that Biden was being sworn in in about an hour, and had promised during his campaign to declare war on oil, beginning with cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office. Which he did, and then proceeded to cancel oil exploration leases and put hundreds of thousands of acres of federal land off-limits to oil and gas exploration. He made lots of promises at the time, and he’s kept most of them, to disastrous effect.

Speaking of which ....

From Politifact:

Broadly, the word senile is defined as pertaining to old age. But often it is used by some people in association with memory loss problems or diseases that are not a normal part of aging.

PolitiFact contacted experts in the health care of older people for their take on Hume’s use of the word senile and its application to Biden. They said Hume’s characterization is wrong.

It’s "a shameful display of ageism and ignorance," said Donald Jurivich, Eva Gilbertson Distinguished Professor of Geriatrics and Chairman of Geriatrics at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
