From a $9.995 ask in 2007 to a $3 million sale today, but at least it's finally sold

23 Cliffdale Road has closed for $3 million.A historic home — one of the Mead family was killed here by the British, back before our current president had smoothed ruffled feathers — and I know there were efforts underway to save it, but I don’t know whether they were successful. It was sold direct as a “private sale”, so no details, yet.

This was a gorgeous lot of 9 1/2 acres, high on a hill, with sweeping views to the southwest encompassing even, if I recall correctly, Long Island Sound and maybe the NYC skyline. I had a client who was deeply interested in the property back in 2007-2008, but aside from the price, he was ultimately deterred by the owner’s unfortunate decision to build a 9-car/guest cottage/indoor basketball court structure right smack in the middle of the meadow, right where a new home should logically be built. So my guy passed, and bought another house down the street; whether other potential buyers had the same objections or declined for other reasons I don’t know, but the property stayed on the market for a long time.

This seller paid $5 million for it in 2004, renovated the existing homestead, to some extent, built that unfortunately sited sports and auto arena, and put it back up for sale in 2007 for $9.995 million. Wrong price.
