True socialism has never been tried!

well of course we have toilet paper, comrades

Cuba’s chronic shortage of toilet paper has reared its ugly head again.

Toilet paper in Cuba only for tourists
The Sanitary Products Company (Prosa) in Cardenas, which is supposed to cover the demand for toilet paper for the entire country, will only produce the product for the tourist sector due to the lack of raw materials and financing to import the amount of material required.

In the midsts of a serious crisis in basic products, the factory only obtained enough raw material to produce the so-called “luxury” toilet paper to cover the needs of the first four months of 2023 of the tourist sector, “its most important client.” Small quantities sold for hard currency only will be made available, said the company’s director, Manolo Gonzalez Garcia, in a report in the state-run newspaper Granma.

This is not a new development, although the excuses for socialism’s failure to produce a basic necessity vary (to be fair, the lack of food does reduce the need for an end product like toilet paper) — in 2014, it was blamed on the country’s “deteriorated” 4-meter-long rubber roller out of the country for repair — the shortage is permanent.

Paper helps Cubans roll with a shortage - The Denver Post

Aug 27, 2009 — Granma, the official communist newspaper of Cuba, is coming in handy during a severe toilet-paper shortage.

And it’s not just Cuba that can’t produce “luxury” items like toilet paper, soap, and toilet seats: every socialist economy suffers the same fate.

I forget her name, but a now-conservative columnist once wrote that a trip to the Soviet Union with her communist parents opened her eyes to the fraudulent dream they’d been distilling in her. Her family and several others held a picnic in a park, and the women passed the single roll of toilet paper to each other when a trip to the public restroom was necessary. “How can a society be so poor and so badly run that it can’t keep public bathrooms stocked with toilet paper?” she asked herself, and that realization started her on her path to right thinking.

Maybe we should remove toilet paper from university bathrooms.

(UPDATE) Senator Murphy has this to say about that:
